We have had two very eventful days in the NICU! Last night I got to give Mason a bath, change his diaper, and place him in his incubator without the help of a nurse. It was kind of scary at first but I loved getting to be so hands on with them. Both of the boys are doing fabulous and gaining weight by the day. Carson is on the road to having his nasal canula out (the tube across his face). They are tolerating feedings really well too. We're on the countdown until they can come home.
Can you tell them apart?? We sure can't! We enjoyed getting to hold them side by side while trying to pick out anything to help us figure out how to keep them straight when we bring them home.
Sorry for the private parts picture. I was trying to hurry his bath so he didn't get too cold!
Mason was quite startled as I was trying to change his diaper. Check out the size of those diapers!

Last night we both got to hold the boys. It was such a great experience for the both of us. Eric held Mason during a feeding and I finally got to hold Carson for the first time. We saw them today and we got a great progress report on the both of them. Carson has gained a little bit of weight and they are both handling the feedings really well. Right now they are both being fed through a tube in their tummies but in about 3 weeks they will start to bottle feed. Mason eats a little more than Carson but I'm sure he will catch up to his brother very soon! They took the c pap (the thing on their nose) off and I'm sure they love that!! Our highlight of the day is going to see them. Ethan can say both of their names and likes to look at their pictures. We'll of course post more pictures this week. Thanks for checking our blog!

Mom and Mason. He peed in his incubator, so while they changed the sheets, Mom had the chance to hold him for the first time. He looked straight at us.

So, on Thursday May 24, 2007, Mason Robert Payne and Carson Joseph Payne thought it would be fun to arrive 10 weeks early. Cindy woke up cramping, and drove over to St. Rose Siena hospital in Henderson, NV. Eric was in England. He arrived back home the next day.

Around 1:18pm Thursday afternoon, Dr. Fleischer completed the emergency C-section, and Mason and Carson were born.

Since they are several weeks premature, they were transferred to UMC Hospital, which has a level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is one of the best in the area. We visit them every day, and we'll be posting pictures often.
